| Committed to excellence in training men and women for rewarding careers
in teaching and allied professions, The College of Education & Allied
Professions emphasizes development of effective communication skills, ethical
awareness, and critical thinking abilities. Designed especially for students who
are intellectually curious and interested in working with others, each
program challenges students to apply their knowledge and educational
skills effectively in a variety of settings, from classrooms to community
health agencies.
In addition to its early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescent teacher education programs, the College offers a broad range of other specialized majors in education and the allied professions. These include special and vocational education, community health, exercise science, speech-language pathology, and respiratory therapy and public affairs and community service programs.
The College of Education & Allied Professions has offered professional education courses since 1872, and all programs are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Ohio Department of Education. Upon successful completion of UT's accredited baccalaureate program, students become eligible for teacher licensure in the State of Ohio.Allied professions programs are also accredited by their respective professional associations.
The College enjoys an outstanding reputation for providing graduates who are capable of meeting high academic standards and diverse educational needs. Coursework is arranged into three categories. The first category, known as the core curriculum, includes general education requirements in the areas of English composition, humanities, science, social studies, multi-cultural studies, and math. The second category of coursework encourages students to focus on developing skills in their special areas of professional interest, and the third involves experience "in the field."
Field experience for UT students may begin as early as the first year of study. Internships during the senior year enable students to teach (and learn!) by interacting with students and clients, and by collaborating with outstanding teachers and other professionals.
Students enrolled in UT's College of Education & Allied Professions enjoy learning in a comfortable, inclusive academic community nestled within a larger metropolitan community. Plus, just minutes away from campus, the City of Toledo features dozens of year-round and seasonal attractions from art to aardvarks!
At UT, you'll find a community of caring people who take you, your academic goals, and your life dreams seriously.
After all, we want you to succeed...
